INVINCIBLE—an Immersive Multi-Media Experience

ELAWC Hosts INVINCIBLE—a Free Immersive Multi-Media Experience
to Spotlight Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)

April 28 event to showcase film, photography, and Piñatas at East LA College

Los Angeles, CA — East Los Angeles Women’s Center (ELAWC) will host INVINCIBLE, an immersive multi-media experience to cap off a month of activities during Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The free event features art, photography, piñatas, and the premier of a short film, Trigger. Invincible begins at 6:00 PM on Thursday, April 28 in the F5 Multipurpose room at East Los Angeles College.

“Who I am and what I wear does not justify sexual violence.” is the message of Red Lips, Hoops On: Invincible”, an interactive photo, social media, and community outreach campaign that will be featured as part of the experience.

Also, on display is the photo exhibit “Empower, Create, Mobilize," designed to protest victim-blaming and raise awareness on the topics of consent, boundaries, and sexual assault. The campaign was created by ELAWC’s Youth Empowerment Program in collaboration with the California Department of Public Health and the youth photography and mentorship program, Las Fotos Project.

Inspired by the work of San Diego artist, Diana Benavídez, survivors of sexual assault have created a compelling exhibit of piñatas, political sculptures and cultural art designed to provoke conversations and serve as powerful and creative expressions of thoughts, affirmations, symbols, and messages of hope.

Finally, the event includes the exclusive community premiere of “TRIGGER,” a powerful short film written and produced by participants of the ELAWC’s Youth Empowerment Program and directed by Award Winning Director, Juan Escobedo, Founder of TELASOFA, the East LA Society of Film and Arts.  The film brings to life the healing story of Max and Valentina, who are triggered to recall the traumatic reality of sexual assault.

Join us for this powerful event to raise awareness, educate and immerse yourself in the stories that bring healing to the community!
