50 Years of Courage, Healing, and Community
Fifty years ago, a courageous group of Latinas launched the nation’s first 24-hour bilingual rape crisis hotline— expanding access to care for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, long before culturally responsive, trauma-informed services were the norm.
Today, ELAWC remains a lifeline for survivors and families, rooted in culture, compassion, and community. Through a comprehensive healing ecosystem, our peer advocates, volunteers, and clinicians meet each person where they are—guiding them toward safety, healing, and independence.
We advance survivor-centered advocacy and prevention programs grounded in the belief that violence is not inevitable. On October 30, we proudly celebrate 50 years of service, honoring the visionaries, partners, and communities who have shaped ELAWC into what it is today.
