Los Angeles, CA —East Los Angeles Women’s Center (ELAWC) will host INVINCIBLE, an immersive multi-media experience to cap off a month of activities during Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The free event begins at 6:00 PM on Thursday, April 28 at the F5- Multi-Purpose Room 2nd floor at East Los Angeles College.
On display will be “Red Lips, Hoops on: Invincible” an interactive photo, social media, and community outreach campaign created by ELAWC along with the SAAM Youth photo exhibit in collaboration with Las Fotos Project to deliver the message “Who I am and what I wear does not justify sexual violence”
Inspired by the work of San Diego artist Diana Benavídez, piñatas become political sculptures meant to provoke conversations through an exhibit created by ELAWC clients, staff and community inspired by "Text Me When You Get Home" which explores habits and rituals adopted by women in response to the threat of lurking predators in public spaces.
Finally, the premiere of the short film, “TRIGGER,” written and produced by ELAWC Youth Empowerment Program, and directed by Juan Escobedo, Founder of TELESOFA, the East LA Society of Film and Arts.
