Choosing Myself Over the Lies: A Memoir of Truth, Resilience, and Becoming is a powerful and intimate reflection by Anel Lee, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, survivor, and advocate. Through her lived experience, Anel shares a journey of reclaiming her voice, healing from harm, and choosing herself in a world that often tells women who they are allowed to be.
This Café Con conversation will center on truth-telling, resilience, and the quiet power of choosing oneself. Because when women release the stories that no longer serve them, everything begins to change.
"For years, I carried stories about who I was allowed to be, what my past meant, and how far I could go. Letting those stories go changed everything..”
—Anel Lee

About Café Con :
Café Con was created to bring together movers and shakers who care deeply about making a difference in their community. Hosted by the East Los Angeles Women’s Center, this series of intimate conversations explores art, writing, music, and film as pathways to healing, reflection, and social change.
Each gathering is designed to open hearts, spark dialogue, and gently shift the narrative around gender-based violence, healing, and collective care. Café Con offers a space to listen, learn, and connect—rooted in the belief that community is built through shared stories and intentional action.
If you, or someone you know, are interested in learning how to support ELAWC’s mission to ensure that all women, girls, and their families can live in safety, dignity, and hope, we warmly invite you to join us.
