Domestic Violence Awareness Month

For 49 years, East Los Angeles Women’s Center has been a place of peace and refuge for women and families who have entered our doors looking for answers, hope, and justice, where their silence is heard.  Our work is only possible thanks to our service providers, staff, advocates, promotorasand supporters who believe in us to be a vessel of change providing culturally specific services and solutions to the community we serve.

Domestic violence or intimate partner violence is defined as a pattern of abusive behavior in a relationship by one partner, with the intent of gaining or maintaining power and control over another person. Domestic violence can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic, or psychological actions or threats of actions that impact another person.

How can you make a difference this DVAM?

1. Please continue sharing ELAWC as a resource in the community.  Since 1976, ELAWC has offered a safe environment where survivors can receive a range of services that are trauma informed and culturally responsive. If you or anyone you know needs help please contact our 24/7 Bilingual Hotline: 800.585.6231

 2. Follow us on social media for resources, affirmations and awareness. (@elawc) Repost and share, we want to know your story!

 3. Your gift to our Rapid Response Fund provides immediate support for survivors—shelter, counseling, and advocacy in their most urgent moments.   Together, we can protect, uplift, and remind every survivor that they are not alone, especially in times of fear.

4. Follow the ELAWC calendar of activities to stay up to date on DVAM events and happenings

5. Sponsor one of the ELAWC DV Awareness Events, such as the 28th Mujeres de Paz Vigil. Your support truly makes a difference! Please contact Alejandra Aguilar-Avelino at (323) 526-5819 ext. 501 & 216 or [email protected]
