Join us for an exclusive screening of the USC thesis film FOR ROSA, followed by a thought-provoking discussion with filmmaker Kathryn Boyd-Batstone, actor Melinna Bobadilla, ELAWC’s Co-founder Connie Desisto, LCSW
Inspired by the Madrigal Ten, a landmark case in reproductive justice, FOR ROSA follows the story of Eva, a young Latina mother sterilized without her consent at Women's and Children's Hospital at LAC + USC. The film depicts a dark moment in the late ’60s and early ‘70s when poor, pregnant, immigrant women were often coerced into tubal ligations after giving birth. Despite their pain and shame, a small group of Latinas bravely stepped forward to hold the doctors, hospital, and state accountable in a groundbreaking lawsuit that led to significant policy changes to protect future generations.
